Cubs outlast D-Backs in bitter battle Late Inning rally can't redeem D-Backs, Griffey If you were imagining a pitching duel between former Cub Matt Clement and Mark Prior, you would be sadly mistaken on Monday. Both ace's lasted only 5 innings, with Prior allowing 4 earned runs and Clement letting up 3 of his own. The game belonged to the bats, with Ken Griffey Jr. shining in his D-Back debut at Bank One. Griffey was 3-for-4 with a a solo shot and a 2-run shot and 4 RBI's. Rookie Justin Upton got his first career hit, going 1-for-4 with a run. For the Cubs, Derek Lee turned a solid performance, going 2-for-5 with a run and 3 RBI's. Scott Hairston also hit a homer, going 2-for-5 with a run and 2 RBI's. Reliever Michael Wuertz ended up getting the win for the Cubs, turning in an inning of hitless work and striking out one. For the D-Backs, Randy Choate took the loss, dropping to 0-1 with an ERA of 36.00. The D-Backs turned the pressure on at the end of the game, scoring two in the bottom of the ninth off a Griffey homer, but the Cubs closed the doors and held on for the win.
